Kaiju Revamp - Aprii Fools by Bracey100 Kaiju Revamp - Aprii Fools by Bracey100
Ok jokes over! This is not legit, this Godzilla was drawn by Crash, a concept artist for Stan Winston done for the proposed '94 an DeBont Godzilla movie which sadly never happened. Instead of a robust monster battling behemoth we got GINO. I traced over Crash's art but rendered my own colors to see which Godzilla fans would recognize this piece of art and call me out. While I tried very hard to make his look like my own work there were a couple of clues. I dont do profiles for instance and I always show all limbs and almost never use such a tame pose.

Its April 2nd now and I hope you can all groan and smile and laugh at my joke. Rest assured I will be doing my Godzilla soon, I just want to finish my commissions fist before committing to my ultimate project. Regardless more art is coming soon!

Maybe an old April Fools, but damn you did this design justice with those colors. I have a slight preference for green Godzillas. It actually reminds of the 1970s Marvel Godzilla with the green body and red eyes.

I'm especially fond of the Marvel Godzilla as well. I love the design. Very retro and old school. Always wanted to see a more modern update to it. With more details and such.

I will NEVER understand why people rip on Zilla. His design is awesome, the movie was far from being perfect but was still great, and it was an over all brilliant take on a realistic godzilla.

If you like him thats fine but frankly a lot of us dont. I'll state again that his design have having smaller and smaller teeth at the front of his mouth to the point that they became these blunt little pegs was just a bad feature. Were the series to continue which would have added other giant mutants he would have ended up gumming his opponent. Also I never really dug the chin. Other than that design wise its not a bad monster blame the hate on the characterization, if youre going to redo a film stay true to the character.

Peter Jackson managed to give us a realistic King Kong that still acted like Kong! He was both something to be pitied and also feared. He was savage and noble. A realistic Godzilla is fine but he should still remain agressive (and not always fleeing!) and should spit at least fire if not radiation. Bombardier beetles produce a chemical explosion as a defense, to bad Roland and Emmerich didnt think fire breathing was realistic. At least the guys who made Reign of Fire realized it could be done. No, the design is mostly good and I am a fan of Patrick Tataupolis but the portrayal of the character made Zilla flighty, weak and a hermaphrodite...ugh!

Tell me something, if your brand new to the world, vulnerable to attacks by HIGH CALIBER WEAPONS, and above all PREGNANT, are you gonna stand and fight, or are you gonna run? Odds are your gonna run. Again, it was supposed to be a realistic take on Godzilla, not the damn near immortal radiation spewing monster we usualy see. And on that note they pass with flying colors. And for the record he DOES breath fire in the film. TWICE.

No it doesnt breath fire, It "shouts" and methane from its gut ignites only after some cars explode (not very realistically) from crashing together. Beside, I never said it had to be an immortal radiation monster, I said it should be agressive which is in the character of the original and even listed how the fire could have been done plausibly but if you are just going to ignore anything I say this conversation is over.

Anf Godzilla is not a hermaphrodite...period.

So.... An animal that know it could die and thus risk not only its own life but also the life of it's children is going to stand and fight.... Ya no. It's going to do what it takes to protect itself.

And if godzilla isn't a hermaphrodite then explain Minilla and Jr. Did they just spawn from thin air?

Godzilla found and adopted his son(s). They weren't really his by blood as he didn't lay the eggs. He took them in because they were the last of his race. I won't argue over the whole Zilla issue. Just sit back and lets all just enjoy the films we love.

The violet fins are how Godzilla was depicted in one particular movie, green with purple fins. The lack of teeth is because I traced another artists work for this as an April Fools joke and thats how he drew it.

D'oh! Well, I fell for this one hook, line, and sinker at first. The proportions and skin tone are very Harryhausen-esque, not too Tsuburaya-like at all. Still, it works on quite a few levels, particularly with the head: very reptilian, but with quite a bit of potential personality behind it (Sort of like the T-Rex from the Land of the Lost movie - which, in my opinion, was easily the best part of the film, though that isn't saying much).

Still, the basic body type behind this works on quite a few levels (save for the somewhat skinny ankles and lower legs), and I think I'd like to see something similar in a future film.

I was late in seeing this one but it was a pretty clever prank. The really bright green and smooth body reminds me very much of the old Hannabarbara Godzilla from the Godzilla Hour show of old. Actually makes me wonder how'd you approach that one lol, eye beams and all.

I'm sure everyone is looking forward to how you tackle the king himself but I'd say Mothra and even Ghidorah should come before that as they represent a couple major design challenges that can go quite a ways toward finding the right stance to attempt Godzilla. It's kinda odd in a way that we've been going kind of backwards in terms of order. I tend to look at a lot of kaiju settings with the frame of mind that the design asethetic all springs and branches off of the main kaiju. For any 'Godzillaverse' Godzilla is that main kaiju so in a way, it's like you're working backwards. Going on from what we've had so far, I think we can expect a truly savage looking and powerfully primordial Godzilla for this series of revamps.

In anycase, happy belated April Fools lol.

Ive actually been toying with the idea of doing the HB Godzilla as well as the Marvel Comics Godzilla as both barely look like Godzilla when you get down to it.

Ive got some pretty good ideas as to how Mothra might go but Im still trying to work out Ghidorah, that one is going to be a huge challenge and since my Godzilla concept is pretty well developed Im still thinking about doing him before Ghidorah. Yeah, Im definitely working backwards since the first time I tried to tackle this project back in I think 2005 it was my attempts to start with Godzilla that killed my intrest, the bastard just defied my ability to get something down on paper. But I think the wait will at last be worth it, my Godzillas (as I will be doing a 54 version and a later version) will indeed honor the power and rage that is the King of the Monsters.

I have my issues with the remake but the design of Godzilla wasnt one of them at the time. A Godzilla that runs instead of fights and that can be taken out by a few missiles...oh yeah and the asexual reproduction...that was pretty horrible. Its a kaiju movie I could have enjoyed had it not be named Godzilla. It was like doing a Superman movie and making him vulnerable to bullets, it didnt fit the character concept. The Stan Winston design is pretty cool but Ive got nothing against Tatopoulos's creature except for the front of the mouth. The teeth get smaller and smaller from the back of the jaw forward until it looks like Zilla has nothing to chew with. Other than that the design was pretty cool, but the Winston on skews more toward Toho's Godzilla.
