I swear these things are getting more complicated as I go along lol! The inking and the coloring on this one were the most involved yet. Anyone on to the breakdown. Gudis is a rather interesting enemy from the series Ultraman: Towards the Future. I enjoy Ultraman but Im not a huge buff of the series. Ive only seen the original show from the 70's in its entirety and a number of movies (many without the benefit of subs or dubs). So doing Ultra Monsters requires more research than say Godzilla stuff which I know backwards and forwards.

Gudis is fairly nasty, he's a kaiju sized parasitic virus. When defeated he can infect another being and become a new Gudis. Well the parallel I drew was obvious my Gudis would draw inspiration from The Thing From Another World. I researched monster concepts from the old and new movie (the Rob Botin monster is VERY slimy while the prequel creature is far less so). Lots of good ideas to be had there. I also cherry picked the eyes from the Brain Bug from Starship Troopers while finding my own unique approach to them. Given that Gudis had 2 forms I elected to mostly go with the Mars Gudis features but the squid-like tentacles of Super Gudis. The nastly mouths on my tentacles were inspied by 2 Stephen King movie monsters: the Shit Weasels from Dreamcatcher and the Tentacle Monster from The Mist. Both of those creatures are forever burned into my mind! F'ing creepy!!! The main mouth is well...a bit sexual...its for me to get away from the impact HR Giger and films based on his work have had on me. Gudis had no visible means of propulsion and since I didnt want to repeat the snail thing I went with two large dragging arms and a lot of cilia. For texture and colors I studies lots of pictures of tumors and gangrene. DONT EVER LOOK UP GANGRENE IF YOU ARE MALE!!! You have been warned.

So here we have my Gudis, a creeping, nasty, giagantic disease. God, everything about him just feels infectious! Ugh. He has all the features of the original but I think the additional eyes, claws and teeth coupled with his overall unhealthy, putrid look ad a whole new level of threat and disgust to this interesting Ultra Monster.

Texture and detail are apparently my thing. Im obsessed with them to the point of distraction I think.

Well it adds an extra dimension to your work, so keep it up. I can only spend so much energy on textures before I bored and move on, but it's a great look, I'd do more if I had the decipline.

Thank you and all three of those monsters are on the list. Ultraman is a particular goldmine for little known but very cool kaiju. I look forward to eventually drawing them all.
