Kaiju Revamp - Guiron by Bracey100 Kaiju Revamp - Guiron by Bracey100
From the Gamera series we have the MOST iconic of all his foes, the mighty knife faced Guiron. Guiron is an alien monster whose main attribute is this his head is a machette hard enough to crack Gamera's shell. He can also leap farther and higher than any kaiju I know and has telekinetic shuriken lodged in his blade/snout.

Ok taking all this into account I started be checking out animals with powerful necks. Charging animals like bulls, buffalo and rhino were my first subjects of research (hence the pawing at the ground pre charge pose). Then I took a look at the Reek from Star Wars and the Kothoga from The Relic. To support that huge horn/blade my design had to have a very powerful neck, this neck needed to deliver powerful axe blows and head thrashes. Equally important was a heavily muscled and powerful body to balance the weight on the kaiju's front end. So I made this my thickest kaiju yet. His legs are also powerful but stumpy which actually fits in well with the original's context.

Since Guiron is a quadreped but like all good kaiju can stand when needed I blunted the end of his tail and make it rigid and muscular to act as a third limb for standing kinda like a kangaroo uses. In the film his shuriken are hidden beneath a membrane that just disappears when they are in use. I decided to implement a short of shuriken shooter nasal passage like structure on the blade. Guiron has one of the most durpy faces in all kaijudom with his super sleepy eyes. Couldnt have that. I went with something that gives him a more applicable field of vision and eyes inspired by my gecko turned sideways. I gave him huge rancor-like nostrils to drive his metabolic needs as such a powerhouse. Plus he can do some cool angry bull snorts now. Since the blade is part of his head I set his enormous fangs right into his armored skull instead of gums. Everything about this guy was built to say power...like a bulldog version of a kaiju. And since Im tired of scales I went with a thick elephantine hide.

This one was fast as well as fun.

Yes, because a tabloid saying that there is a new gamera film totally confirms it

Probably one of the most funniest kaijus I ever saw but in the same time a very memorable one despite the movie in where he appeared was a bit odd, but still a very cool yet quit funny looking monster. And I also love this revamp, especially the horn that really looks like something which is a part of its body and not a huge knife jammed into his face.

Yeah, him alongside the entire Showa series monsters and I also really wonder what interpretations would you have in revamping all of the Gamera kaiju, especially Barugon ( I really wonder who was the ,,genius" that came up with his powers ), Iris and Legion ( my two favorites ), and no problem.

I like it a lot, although I would have made Guiron's blade much more straight like the original. Good job!

Good for martial arts.

I'd love to see your take on either Legion or, Hell, Gamera himself. I might even want to do a Gamera design of my own, based off of both his Showa and Heisei incarnations.

I would look at multiple turtles. Also note that Gamera is, according to officials sources and Roger Ebert, powered by farts.

And I really wanna see Del Toro's take on Gamera. I mean, if you ever watch Heisei Gamera Trilogy, the story and Concept are truly Del Toro-ish (ancient civilization, creatures with characters, etc)

I once read that the designer of Knife Head, Wayne D Barlowe, is never know about Guiron until the reviewers said it.

Thats pretty funny! Guess Wayne was never a kaiju fan per sey. He's more into alien life forms Id guess from his work. Heh I wish Del Toro had hired me for this job. What a dream come true that would have been.

Ahahaha.... That's right, it's been every Kaiju artists dream to work in a movie project. BTW, if you look closely, you will immediately know that pacific rim kaijus are designed by many artists, you can tell by the difference on their design styles. Wayne Barlowe's work including Knifehead and Mutavore. You can see his style there

His most distinctive style are wrinkles, abnormal facial structures, and anatomical impossibbilities

Nice! I like how you made the horn/blade look like a natural part of his anatomy. Not like the movie where it looks like a giant steak knife glued to his head.

.O. There's gonna be a reference to him in Pacific Rim? Goodie! And yeah, a kaiju with a knife blade jutting from his face is more than likely based off of Guiron. X3

This is the most amazing art on Guiron I've ever seen! It is also the best of the revamp pictures you've made. Just amazing. It actually looks like a real creature, and a pretty terrifying one at that. The looks, the anatomy, everything is just perfect!

Anguirus is often called the Rottweiler of the Kaiju world and I agree that Guiron here is definitely the bulldog, he's fierce and tough and that special kind of ugly that's kind of cute
